Dates for your diary

You will be able to find As Petals Fall at the following events:

3rd December – Christmas Steps Artisan Christmas Market, Bristol (11-4)

The Oh So charming Christmas Steps are holding another of their wonderful markets featuring lots of stalls of beautiful handmade goods, perfect for an alternative bit of christmas shopping avoiding the busy high street and a guaranteed dose of festive cheer with carols, mulled cider and twinkling lights. Perfect.

10th December – Yule Love It! Christmas shopping event at Tenderfoot Gifts, Brislington Bristol (10-5)

I absolutely cannot wait to get along to Tenderfoot gifts as it is a plethora of  beautiful arts and crafts stocking work from so many talented artists/ designers/ makers. Another perfect place to find individual christmas gifts, get inspiration and meet some lovely people.

11th December – Lionheart Magazine Launch party, 40 Alfred Place, Kingsdown, Bristol (1-10)

This event is very special, my wonderful  friend Helen has created the most beautiful printed magazine, The first issue is about bravery, and if ever there was a brave, strong lioness then it is Hels; if you need encouragement to follow your dream/ heart then read about her journey into print.

“Lionheart is a celebration of what can be achieved, emphasising that you and your friends are brilliant”  – Indeed.

This party will be a celebration of having a lion in your heart, and a physical embodiment of the magazine itself, there will be all things good: Craft, things to make and do, cake, music, wonderful people, joy…

Hope to see you there petals x

Hello November

Winter is approaching, its dark and chilly, the sheepskin slippers are out, the heating is on and the hibernation has begun, which is perfect as this month I will be beavering away creating stock for my upcoming shop:

As petals fall will be a purveyor of beautiful handmade textile goods, each piece will be unique incorporating a mix of hand screen printed designs, vintage fabrics, ribbons, doilies and pretty material I’ve picked up along the way (including some gorgeous Liberty prints).

My first market stall will be at The Christmas Steps Artisan Market on the 3rd December, which is most exciting. The market is especially for independent artisan traders and the higeldy pigeldy charm of the Christmas Steps is the perfect place for stress free Christmas shopping, There will be carols, mulled cider and pretty lights, ahhh I can’t wait!

Ribbons doilies and garlands

This week I have been making cushions, garlands and other pretties out of vintage and hand screen printed fabrics, doilies and beautiful ribbon ready for the launch of the As petals fall shop in December…

I finally finished the knitted owl cushion that I have been working on for months, he is called Oswald Mowl.  I am very proud as it took much perseverance to say the least but now I feel ready to tackle a pattern for a cardigan or jumper, preferably a fair isle number.

He’s sporting vintage floral wings and a gold leather beak

Handmade in Britain / Bath

Today I had a lovely day sauntering around the streets of Bath with some friends, we went to the Handmade in Britain fair, bumbled around flea markets, haberdashery’s and charity shops and ate cookies, It was just peachy.

The Makery Emporium

Handmade in Britain was full of wonderful crafty designer makers, who were all so friendly, it was really interesting chatting to them about their inspirations and methods. Some of my favorites were:

Zoe Hillyard ~ Beautiful recycled silk and ceramic patchwork pieces that were truly original and encapsulated the ethos of craft and up-cycling perfectly.

Deryn Relph ~ Rainbow bright interior textiles that would uplift any room, I loved this chair:

Natalie Salisbury ~ Beautiful jewellery that embodied the intricacy of lace work, we were swooning over these rings for some time:

Emily Gliddon ~ Elegant, nostalgic jewellery with really interesting surface patterns, she also does jewellery making workshops in Bristol which I would love to do.

Helen Steel ~ Cheerful handmade textile home wears and gifts, I loved the printed tea towels and applique bird badges.

There were so many other inspiring exhibitors I definitely recommend a visit if you can tomorrow, see the Handmade In Britain Website for more information.
